How’s that Social Distancing treating you, friends? Freaking out yet?
Lucky for us, our Fire and EMS expert Justin Schorr has been on the front lines of this epidemic turned pandemic since early in its surveillance. Working at an international airport and working closely with the CDC and local health departments Justin has been monitoring not only the symptoms of travelers but the response to said symptoms.
Justin’s experience with epidemics didn’t start in December 2019, he was on an ambulance during the H1N1, SARS, Swine flu and was also at an airport designing response for the Ebola outbreak.
In this episode MC asks the questions many first responders, as well as their families, have been asking:
- What is the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic?
- Is Covid-19 just another flu?
- Are the new restrictions on gatherings, “social separation,” really necessary? Will they help?
- What can we do, as first responders, to protect ourselves and our families?
- Why is Justin live via satellite from 4 minutes away?
The article mentioned in the show has been updated even in the 30 minutes since the guys recorded. It is, by far, the most balanced evaluation of current data we have seen as of now. Medium article by Thomas Pueyo.
Like we said in a recent show, wash your hands, avoid touching your face, stay away from sick people and if you’re sick stay away from others.
Wear PPE when possible, maintain 6 feet separation when you can’t and stay away from as many others as possible for as long as you can. That’s the only way we can slow the spread of this virus, we owe it to ourselves, our families and our community.
